Adding Apple CarPlay to your car or truck is like having a personal assistant with you to operate your radio and smartphone. In 2014, Apple launched this smartphone connectivity option to improve safety while allowing drivers to make phone calls, check text messages and choose the entertainment they wanted to hear.

How Does Apple CarPlay Work?

If you have CarPlay in your car or truck, all you have to do is connect your iPhone and activate the Siri voice recognition feature using a button on your steering wheel or the radio. Once the system is listening, you can ask for what you want: Send a text message, make a phone call or listen to a streaming music service. Siri understands straightforward English commands and uses its advanced artificial intelligence to deliver what you ask for.

Upgrade Options for Most Vehicles

We offer new multimedia receivers from Alpine, Sony, Kenwood and JVC that include both CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. Several options include wireless CarPlay that uses a Wi-Fi connection to your phone instead of the USB cable. These radios are available in double-DIN chassis’ with screens between 6.2 and 7 inches. We also offer floating-face radios with 8- to 11-inch displays. These larger designs look similar to the factory radios that come in new Mercedes-Benz and Audi vehicles.

We also offer vehicle-specific add-on CarPlay solutions from ZZ-2. These systems work with the touchscreen in your dash and the controls on your steering wheel just like a factory-installed radio.

Entertainment and Information Options

Aside from sending text messages and making phone calls, CarPlay works with podcast, audiobook and popular online streaming services like Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio and Apple Music. You can ask the system to play songs stored on your iPhone by artist, album name or song title.

A popular feature of CarPlay is its turn-by-turn navigation options. You can use Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze to get detailed directions to almost anywhere in North America. Don’t fret if you don’t have the address. Because you’re connected to the internet, the applications will search for a business’s location and use the latest mapping to plot an efficient route. Best of all, all three systems consider real-time traffic flow information to get you where you need quickly and efficiently.
